During most of Swan’s Island history, summer recreation occurred on or near the water, where one could enjoy all the island has to offer.
Those whose livelihood was on the water and summer residents alike enjoyed a picnic at the beach or a ride in a boat.

Young and old loved to spend time at the beach. There would be dips in the very cold water, but much of the time was spent playing in the sand. Most of Swan's Island shoreline is rocky, but there are a few lovely white sand beaches.

A bike ride to get together with friends was common place. If a car was available, a ride around the island was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. For kids of all ages, the summer free time was just so much fun.
