Theatrical performances often focused on raising money to benefit various island endeavors, children enjoying dressing-up, or community members just having a good time.

There were school plays put on by the students and plays to benefit student activity funds (PIK- People Interested in Kids).

In the 1990s the island theater group, the Hockamock Players, put on theater productions. Usually there was a play shown in the summer as entertainment for the summer population. These performances utilized the stage of the Odd Fellows Hall under the direction of Gene Jellison.

Islanders aren't sure when or why the "Tom Thumb" plays began. There are several other pictures in the Historical Society collection of "Tom Thumb" performances. It is known that they were very popular and the community came to watch their children perform.
